he Cottagers have seen boost their promotion hit the buffers in the last few weeks, with a 1-1 draw away to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend to extend their current barren streak in the league for four games without a win (D3 L1). It was a fair result in accordance with the expected goals (WED 1.47 to 1.24 FUL), although Fulham might have a different opinion about it after seeing the lead given to them by captain Tom Cairney canceled deep into second-half stoppage time.
Conceded end always deflating experience, but this is the second game running this place. Fulham will do something very similar at home to West Brom; Anthony Knockaert put them ahead only for the Baggies to level matters with ten minutes remaining. And speaking of the same, now three successive draws in the league, all with the same 1-1 scoreline.
Back at Craven Cottage though, Fulham will demand much better than the other share of the spoils. Especially with their own face a side struggling near the foot of the standings. However it is at home where they will last league defeat flavor, thus against Nottingham Forest (1-2) on 24 August. Before that, however, the West London outfit recorded impressive back-to-back victories at home to Blackburn (2-0) and Millwall (4-0). A return to the sort of form that is much needed, and soon.
Wigan Preview
It all seemed a little too fun for Wigan before they sign up for a morale-boosting win over Charlton Athletic at the DW Stadium last weekend they were. Perhaps even more surprising than the result itself - Latics were floundering in the lower depths of the league while Charlton flying high at the time - was a source of both goals, with defender Chey Dunkley's brace sealed a 2-0 win that moved them to 19 in the table (W2 D2 L4, GF8 GA13).
The last time the victory is all the more important because it reminds the players how good it feels to win a football match again. The opening weekend is the only other example of Wigan won the championship game of the season, when they managed to inflict a blow early on Cardiff City side who will finish one place above Fulham in last season's Premier League.
