GILLES SIMON
Queen's Club finalist Gilles Simon passed the difficult first set tiebreaker to win in two straight sets against Salvatore Caruso of Italy who had previously beaten Simon at Roland-Garros this year.
The 34-year-old will now face Tennys Sandgren for the second time in just a week after he beat America in their first match at Eastbourne International.
Simon made it to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2015 but has since been out of this round twice, losing to Juan Martin del Potro last year in the last 16.
TENNYS SANDGREN
Tennys Sandgren came out on top in a four-set match with Yasutaka Uchiyama Japan which made nine service breaks.
The 27-year-old has surpassed the Wimbledon record with a win that has lost in the first round last year by champion Novak Djokovic.
Sandgren was at the wrong end of a 2-0 record against Gilles Simon, losing to France on hard courts in India last year before accidentally losing on grass last week.
