Mexico vs Cuba
CONCACAF Gold Cup
Date: Sunday, 16th June 2019
Kick-off at 02.30 UK/ 03.30 CET
Venue: Rose Bowl (Pasadena)
MEXICO
Mexico is a low-priced favorite alongside the United States to claim the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup with the 18th-ranked team in the world set to prove difficult to beat in this competition.
Mexico appear to be the best team in Group A so far and should have no problems progressing to the knockout stages and they have come to this tournament in good condition after claiming victory in their last four matches.
Mexico can have problems on the back line but fight some low-quality opponents who might not be a problem while they will prefer themselves to defeat anyone with Wolves ’Raul Jimenez leads the line.
CUBA
Cuba have competed in nine of the last 12 Gold Cups and are heading into this year's competition behind the CONCACAF League League Qualifying campaign, but they can fall back to earth when they face Mexico in their Group A opener.
Cuba won three of their four matches in the League of Nations qualifiers, beating Grenada, Dominican Republic and Bermuda before falling to a 2-1 defeat to Haiti in their last match.
Luis Paradela and Yordan Santa Cruz will be very important for Cuba's chances of advancing to the knockout stages but with a lack of depth in their squad, they must be in the best performance to give them a chance.
Tips for Mexico vs Cuba betting
The 2019 Gold Cup has an initial mismatch, because Mexico is against Cuba. It is not surprising that the islanders are outsiders who will be involved in the competition at the North American championship. Cuba aims to follow up on their quarter-final place in the competition in 2015, but they failed to qualify two years ago. They are heading for this opener behind defeat, so will we see the Mexicans win an impressive victory to start the summer with a good start?
It seems that Mexico made a triumph for this summer, after making a number of changes over the past few months. We have seen a number of experimental teams from Mexicans lately, but this group has a more experienced advantage. That is definitely not good news for Cuba, while Mexico will have a height set higher than the victory on the opening day. They have won three of the last five Gold Cups, can they continue their superiority over the US with other efforts to glorify this competition?
Cuba entered this match after playing a number of smaller countries in preparation, but they lost their last 2-1 match to Haiti in qualifying for the CONCACAF League of Nations. Although they did well against several sides around them in qualifying for the competition, their recent friendship record was bad. Nobody expects great performances from Cuba, but how will they fight in this clash?
The two met at the 2015 Gold Cup, which saw Mexico secure a 6-0 victory. They won the match before the 5-0, with the last four meetings they saw Mexico win 17-1 on aggregate. That's enough to summarize the gap between the main side in North America and the rest, with Mexico bringing some good talent to this tournament. They include male wolf Raúl Jiménez and Jonathan dos Santos from LA Galaxy.
Cuba came here with a poor tournament record behind them, because they conceded six in three of their last five matches in the tournament. Since 2007 they have conceded five or more goals in seven of 12 matches, twice against Mexico. Meanwhile, Mexico have won their last four matches by scoring a total of 13 goals against several solid teams. That makes us support Mexico with the 4th handicap in this match.
Mexico vs Cuba Head to Head
Mexico has 19 wins and two draws while Cuba only claimed two wins from 23 previous matches. The two teams met in the 2015 Gold Cup group stage with the Mexican team winning 6-0.
Mexico vs Cuba match
Mexico have a lot of attacking qualities on their team, Raul Jimenez who leads. Luis Montes could be the one watching on Sunday after scoring two goals from midfield in his last three matches.
Luis Paradela is often a substitute for Cuba, who seems to be very dependent on the striker. With Mexico expected to dominate possession on Sunday, he could find himself isolated in attacks and service hunger.
