Brazil vs Bolivia
Copa America 2019 (Group A)
Date: Saturday, 15 June 2019
Kick-off at 01.30 UK/ 02.30 CET
Venue: Estádio do Morumbi (Sao Paulo).
Preview
Bolivia's poor record away from the height of La Paz means there is no way we can reflect on anything but a victory for the hosts.
The last time La Verde visited Brazil in 2016, they were beaten 5-0 in World Cup qualifiers, with Roberto Firmino, Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho all on the list of scorers.
Indeed, Eduardo Villegas' troops were on the wrong side of several continental defeats during qualifying for last summer's tournament in Russia, conceding four goals to Uruguay and losing 5-0 in Venezuela.
Brazil maintains a level of firepower that can cause unrest against Bolivian teams who have conceded 15 goals in their last five Copa America matches and this is definitely one of the most straight-forward opening Brazil can give.
Team News
Brazil
Neymar missed the Copa America this summer after suffering ankle ligament damage in one of Brazil's warm-up matches. His absence is a real blow to the host country.
Brazil head coach Tite can move Philippe Coutinho to an offensive trio as a result of Neymar's absence but may retain Barcelona's ace in midfield and start Ajax starlet David Neres.
Premier League rivals Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino are racing to lead the ranks for Brazil this summer, with the first expected to get a nod in the tournament's curtain hoisting.
Alisson and Filipe Luis are each expected to corner Ederson and Alex Sandro on goal and left back. Dani Alves was appointed as captain of Brazil in tournament preparation and will start as right-back.
Casemiro, Allan and Fernandinho are competing for the role of defensive midfielder Brazil, although the first is expected to start against Bolivia.
Bolivia
Gilbert Alvarez and Marcelo Moreno compete to get a place in the Copa America opener against Brazil.
Bolivia is expected to remain with XI similar to those used in the competition to build them against France.
Prediction of Brazil vs Bolivia
Brazil is an incredible favorite to lift the championship, and with them playing as hosts the opportunity is increasingly strengthened. They have made minced meat from all the opposition they took in the CONMEBOL Qualification for the previous World Cup, and completed comfortable toppers, while Bolivia is ninth in the top ten.
The last time the two met in Brazil, the hosts fired five goals against the opponent's goal without a reward. Also, only on the last day, Brazil recorded a big 7-0 win over Honduras, while Bolivia lost their last three ties due to running. Embarrassingly, they can't even score during this stretch.
Lasted, Brazil were unbeaten in 34 of their last 36 matches and won 29 of them. The only two defeats in this period were against Argentina's arch rivals, in a friendly match, while the others were unlucky against Belgium at the World Cup.
Bolivia, meanwhile, are without a win in 15 of their last 16 matches, and in 27 of their last 29 matches outside the cage. They were not at all ready to even have a satisfying match against the prospective champions throughout the competition.
ead To Head
Saturday's match will be the 30th meeting between the two sides, with Bolivia winning just five of the previous 29 compared to 20 for Brazil.
The final match may have ended goalless, but Brazil were unbeaten in their last three matches against Bolivia after scoring nine goals without reply in the process.
The last meeting on Brazilian soil saw the Selecao run out of 5-0 winners, and Bolivia only ever avoided an away defeat to Brazil - a 0-0 deadlock in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.
