Match preview

Alan Hansen was the last Liverpool captain to win the league trophy above his head it was 30 years before the Premier League was still in existence.

Wednesday evening, Jordan Henderson will become the 10th Liverpool skipper to do so, adding his name to a prestigious list that includes Hansen, Graeme Souness, Phil Thompson, Emlyn Hughes, Tommy Smith, Ron Yeats, Willie Fagan, Donald McKinlay and Alex Raisbeck .

It will be a trophy presentation with a difference given the lack of fans in the stadium, with a special series of podium to be erected on the Kop and the club icon Sir Kenny Dalglish being developed in the hand on the medals.

It is a moment that has been eagerly awaited by fans of Liverpool for a generation and will mark the culmination of a season that will go down in history of English football, although most of the previous champions will tell you that the defeat in the game before lifting the trophy takes some of the shine off.

Liverpool will be hoping to mark a festive occasion with victory over the team that handed them the title with seven games remaining, with the triumph of Chelsea over Manchester City last month officially send the trophy to Anfield.
Since then, it has undoubtedly been a fall-off in Liverpool, which in the grand scheme of things will be forgotten but still relatively fast both IRK manager Jürgen Klopp and his players.

The Reds had the glorious chance to record the best single season in English top flight history having dropped only two points from their 27 games, but since then they have won four, two draws and three defeats.

In all competitions Liverpool have now lost more games (six) than they have won (five) in their last 13 outings, the most recent loss coming at the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates courtesy of errors uncharacteristic sloppy Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker.
This has ended any hopes Liverpool had to break the all-time record of points, with 99 now under limited in their last two games of the campaign, but there are still some benchmarks to gain.

Klopp's side could yet save the largest margin win the title - their 18-point lead was short of the current record - when victory Wednesday would equal the records for most points of the house and most home wins in a single season.
Face-to-face
In what will be the fourth meeting between the two in the 2019-2020 season, Chelsea will look to post a second win over Liverpool.

The Reds started their season with a win over Chelsea penalty shootout in the UEFA Super Cup. Backup goalkeeper Adrian was the hero for the Reds, saving the trouble of Tammy Abraham shootout to win the trophy.
The Reds followed that with a hard-fought victory at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League in September. Trent goals of Alexander Arnold and Roberto Firmino helped Jürgen Klopp to get the three points.
The Blues got their revenge in March 2020, when they beat Liverpool in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Willian Ross Barkley and found the net for Lampard side and ended the hopes of a hat-trick in Liverpool.

Liverpool vs Chelsea: Preview

The Reds lost 2-1 on the road the last day of the match against Arsenal - which was only their third defeat in the league this entire season. Meanwhile, the Blues recorded a 1-0 win at Norwich on the narrow house spent the week of play.

As it stands, no team has nothing to lose much. However, men have a place of Lampard CL win. Probably expect attacking football from both teams throughout the unit.

In addition, the 2016-17 Champions PL pull in all cylinders after beating Manchester United completely in the FA Cup, and earlier they had defeated the men of Klopp and competition.

In addition to this, the new title-winners have not kept clean sheets in four of their last five games, and a game where they conceded no goal was a fighter against relegation. As such, expect Chelsea to score at least once on Wednesday.
Anyway, the fact that the game takes place at Anfield will be very important. They are on an unbeaten run at this stage of their last 24 appearances, and of these 21 were impressive victories.

In fact, they have not lost at home this campaign, and will not do that in their last appearance here this season.
