Carlisle vs Cardiff Preview
Carlisle Brunton Park welcomes Cardiff City's FA Cup third-round replay on Wednesday night may know their chances of causing a shock had gone. League Two side went into a 2-0 lead in Wales in the first game thanks to 12-minute goal from Jack Bridge and the second on the stroke of half-time from Harry McKirdy.
But Cardiff back to level the match in the first 10 minutes courtesy of a second half strike from Callum Paterson and Gavin Whyte. Cumbrian side might have done well to hold on for the final 35 minutes of the match to take Cardiff back to the north, but it is very difficult to see the giant killings now.
Carlisle had bigger fish to fry as well with their League Two status under threat after taking just 25 points from their 26 matches played. They currently sit in 21st place in the division, just seven points clear of the relegation zone Morecambe. They should be safe, but their league status is far more important than a small run in the FA Cup.
Carlisle are conceding too many goals - nine in their last three games. Cardiff should be able to take advantage of defense operations without confidence.
Cardiff, relegated from the Premier League after one season in the top flight, was in the 12th position in the Championship and has done well enough to calm the ship. Often struggle with the transition team down and could end up relegated once again. That will not happen to a team from the Welsh capital. A final run of form could even see them steal into a playoff spot in the crowded table.
Cardiff is not consistent with the 6-1 defeat at Queens Park Rangers a low point in recent weeks and a 2-1 away win at Sheffield Wednesday positive flip-side. A 3-0 defeat at home to Plymouth on the weekend would not have increased confidence.
Carlisle is a land that is difficult to get, even if only by geography, but it would be a big surprise to see Bluebirds traveling did not get the job done at the second attempt. Carlisle did not side to roll over easily, but came back strong away win. If Cardiff are in the mood to be some purpose along the way too. That makes the market attractive scorer and attacker Cardiff shared the spoils this season there may be mileage in choosing someone like Will Waulks at 3/1 to notch on Wednesday.
Carlisle vs Cardiff prediction
Carlisle has come out with guns blazing in the first leg, and an unexpected attack was too much to handle for Cardiff. As a result, Cardiff conceded two early goals, and ended the first half with a 0-2 scoreline.
However, they regrouped in the second half, and within ten minutes after the break, they leveled the scoreline 2-2. Although they were unable to find a winner, trust comeback really will help Cardiff in the next meeting as well.
They may be on the road, but taking into account the fact that Cardiff is one of the top-rated team in the Championship, while their colleagues are battling it out in the relegation zone of League Two.
This means that basically, the teams are separated by two whole leagues in the English top flight. Championship is considered one of the most difficult to wade through for any team in the world, while two relatively much lower league.
Additionally, Carlisle has managed just two wins from the last thirteen whole match-ups, and only four of the previous fifteen of their appearance in front of the home crowd.
On the other hand, Cardiff unbeaten in ten previous twelve of their equipment as a whole, and in eight of their previous twelve on the road.
In addition, and very importantly, in the last twenty years, Cardiff holds 100% unbeaten record against these opponents, be it at home or on the road, and have scored two goals or more in each meeting h2h since 1999.
Finally, Cardiff will be better prepared this time after their failure to deal with a surprise attack launched by Carlisle in the first leg, and all the advantages of the former in the experience, talent, and financial feasible will come to their aid on Wednesday to help them secure a win.
