Joao Sousa vs Daniel Evans Predictions & Tips
Evans is the favorite odds to win this match on 5/11, while Sousa is valued at 2/1. Evans played on the surface of his favorite in front of his home fans, and was looking for his first fourth round appearance at Wimbledon. Sousa had played well all week, especially when he beat Cilic, but Evans might only want more wins.
Daniel Evans
With Andy Murray who only played a double match this year, and with Kyle Edmond and Cameron Norrie already eliminated, Evans was left to bring England hopes in the men's event.
So far, he has not disappointed his country. First, he dumped Federico Delbonis Argentina in a straight set, and did the same thing against the strength of the Georgian player, and eighth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili. Now he finds himself in the third round at Wimbledon for the second time in his career, and may feel he will never have a better chance to go further.
Since returning from a one-year ban on sports for taking cocaine that ended in April 2018, Evans seems determined to forget his past. He has been in five Challenger finals since returning, and won three of them, including this year's Wimbledon warm-up event in Surbiton and Nottingham.
That form has been reflected in the ranking - starting this year outside the top 100, he can enter the top 50 in the world if his progress here continues.
Joao Sousa
Sousa achieved one of his best results on grass in the second round by beating the 2017 Wimbledon finalists, and seeded 13, Marin Cilic from Croatia in two straight sets. It was built on the first round win over British wildcard Paul Jubb, ensuring that he reached the last thirty-two at Wimbledon for the second time.
It has been a big improvement over the past two years when he was eliminated in the first round, but now he faces England's opponents at the Number One Court on the first Saturday at Wimbledon, knowing that everyone will oppose him.
